Letters of Recommendation
Some, but not all, colleges require letters of recommendation for their admission application. Letters of recommendation are also required on many scholarships. When selecting a recommender, think about how well the person knows you and how likely they are to write a great recommendation. One of the most important tips is to not wait until the last minute to request the letters. Teachers are often swamped with student requests for letters. Be sure to ask your teachers at three weeks before the letter is due.
We suggest you complete the Brag Sheet. The Brag Sheet gives the recommender background information about you to assist with the letter. While the recommender may know a lot about you, it simply helps them provide a more complete picture of who you are. For example, your recommender may know you are a great math student and know you are on the soccer team, but they probably don't know you have volunteered at a homeless shelter since your Freshman year. The Brag Sheet is a Google form. Once you complete the form and submitted, you will be sent a copy of your responses. You can then forward the email to your recommenders.
If you are using Common App for your college application, you will request letters of recommendation directly in the Common App. An email will be sent directly to the recommender requesting the letter.
