things to do your senior year

for all students:

  • Verify you are on track to graduate
  • Stay involved in TuHS clubs and teams
  • Make sure your resume is up-to date, and continue updating it throughout the year
  • Volunteer in the community
  • Consider a part time job
  • Consider internships or job shadow opportunities in possible fields of interest
  • Meet with someone in the College and Career Center to discuss your future plans
  • Decide if your career plan involves college, trade school, a branch of the military or the work force

if you are considering college:

  • Make a list of potential colleges you would like to attend (find your perfect college match with SchooLinks)
  • Discuss careers and which majors can lead there
  • Attend college fairs and college nights
  • Sign up for Tualatin High School College Visits through SchooLinks to meet with representatives from colleges you might be interested in attending
  • Consider college options and select a college which is the best fit for you based on field of study available, location, cost and activitiesApply for scholarship opportunities
  • Learn about and organize your financial aid
  • Consider ways to earn college credit via Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, CLEP, or Dual Enrollment courses
  • Set up appointments at your top college choices including a personal interview, tour of the campus, and meet with a professor/coach if desired
  • Start working on your college application essays; have a teacher read and discuss the essays with you (visit our Essays page for more info)
  • Discuss Letters of Recommendation: allow at least a 2-week notice on these requests
  • Take the SAT/ACT
  • Review your SAT and ACT scores; sign up to retake the test if necessary
  • Apply to colleges in the fall/early winter

if you are considering the military:

  • Explore the branches and decide which may be the best fit for you
  • Talk to a recruiter to determine if you quality
  • Take the ASVAB test
  • Work with a recruiter to enlist in the branch that interests you

if you are considering the workforce:

  • Consider a trade skill like Electrician, Plumber or Beautician
  • Create your resume
  • Explore companies where you might want to work
  • Create a cover letter
  • Identify people you can use as references on job applications and obtain their contact information
  • Practice interviewing skills
